New Fund: Dr. Emile A. Pessagno Jr. Mesozoic Stratigraphy

The GSA Foundation is honored to announce a new fund to spur geoscience discovery. The Dr. Emile A. Pessagno Jr. Mesozoic Stratigraphy Fund will support PhD students studying Mesozoic biostratigraphy, lithostratigraphy, and tectonostratigraphy. (Application details will be available on the GSA website early next year.)

This fund was made possible by Dr. Pessagno’s generosity. He included provision for it in his estate, and his son fulfilled his wishes to support future generations of Mesozoic stratigraphers. 

Dr. Pessagno Jr. was a distinguished micropaleontologist and longtime GSA member and supporter. He earned a BA in Geology from Princeton, an MS in Geology from Cornell, and went back to Princeton to earn his PhD. Thereafter, he enjoyed a long and productive career at the University of Texas at Dallas. To learn more about his discoveries and impact, read UT Dallas’s memorial reflection.
