About GSA Foundation
The GSA Foundation Mission
The GSA Foundation was established in 1980 to raise funds for the Geological Society of America and steward them for generations to come. Our work enables GSA to focus on its mission while the GSA Foundation focuses on providing the resources needed to achieve it—both now and over geological time
The mission of the Geological Society of America Foundation is to develop and provide funds to support the goals and programs of the Geological Society of America.
These funds are distributed in accordance with donor intent and, when not designated for a particular purpose or program, to support the overall needs of the Society.
We help donors connect their giving goals with GSA’s needs and priorities. Thanks to your generosity, the GSA Foundation provides approximately $2 million in funding to GSA each year. We are proud to have this impact on geoscience and ensure its strength and vitality, both now and in the future—and we couldn’t do it without you.

What We Do
The Geological Society of America Foundation (GSA Foundation) is an independent nonprofit that supports the work of the Geological Society of America (GSA):
In all its work, the GSA Foundation honors donor intent and carefully manages resources to ensure fiscal sustainability.
Our Impact
Through fundraising and donor stewardship, the GSA Foundation advances the mission and impact of the Geological Society of America.
Thanks to your generosity and our careful stewardship of funds, GSA Foundation resources facilitate research, travel, field experiences, conferences, awards, and other programs that strengthen the geosciences, now and in the future.
In 2025, the GSA Foundation provided more than $2 million in funding to GSA.
At its core, the GSA Foundation is committed to investing in people, ideas, and opportunities. Every donation makes a difference.
Your support builds a stronger, more connected geoscience community—one that is empowered to address some of the most pressing challenges of our time while empowering geoscientists to illuminate the deepest mysteries of our planet.
